Originally founded as a helicopter service in 1952 under the name Japan Helicopter & Aeroplane Transports Co., Ltd, the company officially became All Nippon Airways in 1957 and has ditched the ‘copters for 777s and the like. This Tokyo-based carrier is perfectly wonderful and does not, in fact, include even an ounce of Haruki Murakami surrealism. Plus, ANA Airlines flies to pretty much anywhere you'd ever want to go, so you've got an entire international network of destinations right at your fingertips. Bangkok? Check. New York City? Check. The set of "Akira"? Okay, maybe not everywhere, but two out of three isn't bad.
